Ok. So I don't know what the heck I'm doing when it comes to blogs. I only know that the movies make them look easy. So, here goes. First blog ever.
Have you ever worked with a life coach? Have you ever observed one working with another individual? I was fortunate enough to have a great coach during one of my previous jobs. She really made a difference in my career. Since then, I have continued to attend seminars and work with coaches both personally and professionally.
What I notice? That first coach of mine was a gem in the rough. Most coaches sound identical. It's the same old carefully crafted inspirational speak. In fact, I have noticed that some coaches I have worked with have used the same characterizations and acknowledgements when talking to their other clients as they did when talking to me. I see similar trends in inspirational speakers and coaches on TV or in publications. So much for feeling special, huh? So much for getting a piece of feedback that really hits home and makes a difference.
A few months ago, I was joking around with a friend of mine. What would it be like if a coach just said what's there when working with an individual? What if the gut response is what was actually communicated? Would it make a difference? My friend and I came up with coaching scenarios that had us busting out in laughter. At some point though, it dawned on me that perhaps many people would appreciate the gut response. Sometimes people just want the freakin' answer instead of having to interpret some high-level insight and somehow insert it into their lives. Have you ever heard that insights are like rear-ends? They are. Everyone has insights.
So, I'm throwing my hat into the ring. I'm putting myself out there to start a blog called Get A Life. I'll be your quick-stop 'get-a-life' coach. You can ask me anything and I'll give you my gut response. Will my bias and the skeletons in my own closet fall into the picture and affect my responses? You better believe it. Who do you take me for? If you want that high-level fluffy stuff, feel free to visit another blog. Otherwise, you're invited to share an experience or ask a question and Get A Life Coaching will come back at you with a direct answer.
If what I tell you works for you, it's not necessary to give me any credit. Own it as your own brilliance if that floats your boat. If you like, tell your friends and have them ask me stuff too. If my answers provide you with no value, then you got what you paid for. Nothing.
Let's see what you've got.

Ok everyone - 4 days. No comments or questions yet. Get a life and write something!! Gimme a difficult one.
ReplyDeletehey alex (is it OK to use your real name? well too late now). Read all your posts (and Hammad's) carefully after you posted the facebook link. Pleasantly surprised not to see any direct references to your previous coaching/cult (my term) organisation, does that mean you have renounced them? that would be a great relief to me for the reasons I have explained before. Anyway, being the supercritical b*** -that you have come to know and love- that I am, I need to tell you that there is still plenty of 'fluffy' cliched coach-talk in the blogs and also could you please explain about the higher purpose of becoming filthy rich? what's that all about? surely you only need to follow mexican telenovelas (soap operas) to know that money does not bring happiness?

Maria I am happy that you took the time to read the posts. I must profess that I adhere to the same organization. However, that is not the intent of this blog to promote any organization. It is our thoughts our blog.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Anonymous. What was the point you wanted to make? Perhaps you may want to say something but for some reason you do not feel self-expressed enough to do so. Remember both myself and Get a Life are a sounding board for your concerns or just any excrement you feel like flinging our way. We can take it. Perhaps we may be able to provide you some useful responses. If we don't, well so what. Now get a life and say what you want to.
